We have worked hard to build a martial arts academy with a fun, family atmosphere – all while maintaining our integrity and quality of instruction.

Shelby Creech is the founder of MuSool Martial Arts, established in 2001, and a lifelong martial artist whose career spans elite competition, community leadership, mental health advocacy, and tactical training. With decades of experience across multiple disciplines, Shelby has dedicated his life to using martial arts as a tool for personal development, self-defense, and service to the community.


 

Martial Arts Career

Shelby Creech founded MuSool Martial Arts in 2001 with the mission of teaching practical martial arts that build confidence, discipline, 
and real-world capability. His system blends traditional martial arts values with modern grappling and self-defense training.

He is also a co-founder of several impactful programs designed to serve the community:

  • SHIELD Against Bullying – an anti-bullying program that equips youth with confidence, awareness, and practical strategies for dealing with bullying.
     
  • SHIELD Empowered Women’s Self-Defense – a program focused on empowering women with realistic self-protection skills.
     
  • Fit for Duty Tactical Essentials Program – a training system designed to help law enforcement and security professionals develop practical defensive skills. 

 

Shelby’s personal martial arts background spans multiple systems and high-level competition.

In addition to martial arts instruction, Shelby Creech has an extensive background in mental health counseling and behavioral support, bringing a unique perspective to the development of students and community programs.

  • Behavioral Health Unit Case Manager/Counselor (1997–1998)
  • Emergency Room Baker Act Evaluator (1998–1999)
     

Clay County Behavioral Health Center (1998–2000)

  • Outpatient Adolescent Counselor (1998)
  • Contracted Counselor to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (1999–2000)
     

Volusia County Schools

  • Florida Department of Education Teaching Certification (2018)
  • Social and Emotional Learning Counselor (2018–2022)

Shelby also serves as a Mental Health First Aid Instructor (2018–2021), helping communities learn how to recognize and respond to mental health crises.

 

This mental health background strongly influences his approach to martial arts instruction—focusing on confidence building, emotional resilience, and leadership development, especially in youth programs.

Shelby’s career has also included professional work in security and tactical training, giving him experience in real-world protective environments.
